What Is Acne?

Acne is basically a skin condition which occurs when the oil secreting glands in your skin are clogged & become infected or inflamed. Acne happens when hair follicles get clogged with oil & dead skin cells. Hair-follicles are connected to sebaceous-glands. The glands secrete an oily-substance which is known as the “sebum” in order to lubricate the skin and hair.

The sebum usually travels-up along the skin’s hair shafts & then out through/via the hair follicle openings onto the skin’s surface. When the body secretes/produces an excess amount-of sebum and dead skin-cells, the 2 may build-up in the hair-follicles and form up a soft plug, thus creating an environment which is bacteria friendly.

In the teen years, hormones normally stimulate growth of body-hair, and the oil glands usually secrete much more oil. The skin-pores get clogged & bacteria begins to thrive in the clogged skin pores. When your body tries to kill these bacteria, blackheads, whiteheads, and pustules form up in the clogged areas.

What Are Acne Scars? What Causes Them?

Acne is a common skin condition which occurs due to the overworking of the sebaceous glands, causing follicle blockage. This skin condition is most common during adolescence, both in males and females. In most cases, acne reduces as one passes out of adolescence, but for some people, it can continue well into adulthood as well. The areas most affected by acne are face, the back and the neck. When cured, acne leaves behind scars on the surface of this skin. Acne scars are not harmful or even dangerous, but they turn to be a big problem for beauty conscious people.

What Are Acne Scars and How Are They Caused?

When acne breakouts penetrate the skin deeply, they damage skin and the tissue beneath it. As acne heals, the body tries to repair this damage. During the healing process, the human body produces collagen, a substance that supports the skin. If the body produces too much or too little collagen, scars are formed.

Types of Acne Scars

1. Depressed acne scars

These scars are formed when the body produces too little collagen. Depression or pits form as the skin heals.

2. Raised acne scars

The boy may produce too much collage during the healing process. When this happens, a person develops a raised acne scar. These types of acne scars are more common in African Americans, Asians and Hispanics.

Some people are more likely to get acne scars when their skin heals. The risk increases when a person delays or doesn’t treat inflammatory acne, when a person squeezes, picks or pops acne or when a person has a blood relative who developed acne scars.

Few Popular Treatment Options

There are several methods of treatment and the healing process can take days or even months. Such methods include dermabrasion, surgery, laser treatment, collagen fillers and creams.

You can also get rid of acne scars by using certain home remedies and natural remedies. These remedies include tomato, aloe vera, honey, lavender oil, oatmeal, sandalwood and using ice pack.
